🚀 Installation

1. Download ZXP Installer from aescripts.com

1. Install ZXP Installer on your system

1. Restart After Effects

1. Window → Extensions → ColorList

🎯 Basic Usage

1. Color Extraction 🔍

• Active composition: Open ColorList → colors extracted automatically

• Multiple compositions: Select multiple comps in Project panel → all colors displayed

• Non-active compositions: No need to open comps, ColorList analyzes them directly

2. Main Interface 🎨

• Color swatch: Click → native After Effects color picker

• Hex code: Direct input (e.g., #FF0000)

• Opacity: Double-click → value input (0-100%)

• Count badge: Click → select corresponding layer

3. Smart Selection 🎯

• 1 color: Click badge → direct layer selection

• Multiple colors: Click badge → dropdown menu with layer names

• Multi-compositions: Menu shows source composition (e.g., "LayerName (CompName)")

4. Global Modifications ⚡

• Change color: Modify hex → all properties with this color change

• Change opacity: Modify opacity → all properties with this color change

• Undo: Ctrl+Z → undo all modifications at once

🛠️ Advanced Features

Right-Click 🖱️

• Context menu → "Refresh Colors" to refresh analysis
• "Hide/Unhide gradient list" → toggle gradient visibility (persistent setting)

Tooltips 💡

• Color swatch: "Change color" (800ms delay)

• Hex code: "Code hex"

• Opacity: "Opacity prop"

• Count badge: "Number of layer, clic for select"

Supported Color Types 🎨

• Shape layers: Fill, Stroke, Gradient
• Text layers: Global fill/stroke + individual character colors

• Effects: Color Control, Ramp, 4-Color Gradient, Fill, Stroke, Gradient Ramp (restrited because gradient cannot be read in shape layers)

Text Color Management 📝

• Global text colors: Automatically detected and modifiable
• Character-level colors: Individual character styling supported
• Smart detection: Works even when fill/stroke are not explicitly applied
• Character range support: Full compatibility with After Effects 2025+ character styling

💡 Usage Tips

1. Recommended workflow: Select all comps in Project panel → analyze all colors at once

1. Quick modifications: Use native color picker for visual adjustments

1. Precision: Use hex input for exact colors

1. Safety: Ctrl+Z undoes everything, even modifications across multiple comps

1. Refresh: Right-click → Refresh if you add colors during use

⚠️ Important Notes

• Works with compositions selected in Project panel (no need to open them)

• Gradients are detected but displayed as placeholders (After Effects limitation)

• All modifications are grouped in undo history

• Compatible with selected layers (modifies only selected layers if applicable)
